Tavily
Reading live demos, searching the web and fetching linked pages for the agent and Chat.
Tavily is how RoundOne reads the live web. It extracts pages as clean markdown, crawls a site by following instructions, and searches the web with a short answer on top.
Where it's used#
| Feature | Tavily call | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Web scraper mechanism | Extract and crawl | Reads each link in the criterion's inputs, such as the live demo. On the In-depth tier, it also crawls up to 5 more pages of the site. |
The agent's readWebPage tool | Extract | On the Balanced and In-depth tiers, with Web scraper or Agent judge on, the agent reads a page to check a claim. |
The agent's searchWeb tool | Search | Same tiers and mechanisms. Looks for prior art, or checks what a submission says about itself. |
| Chat index | Extract | Pulls in up to three pages each project links to, such as its README and live demo, so Chat can search them. |
| Chat's web tools | Search and extract | Reads a page or searches the web when a question needs it. |
The agent treats everything it reads as data. A page that tells the agent what score to give gets a prompt-injection flag, not a higher score.
The Web scraper mechanism#
Add Web scraper to a criterion on its Inputs tab. It reads the links in the criterion's inputs, such as the project's live demo, and flags any that don't load. On the In-depth tier it then crawls further into the site, steered by the criterion's agent guidance. The pages become evidence for that criterion, and the verdict cites them by URL.
The default Impact criterion uses Web scraper alongside Agent judge, so the agent sees what the demo actually does, not only what the write-up says it does.
Set it up#
- Create an API key in Tavily.
- Set it as
TAVILYin.env.local, or in your host's environment variables in production. - Restart the dev server or redeploy.
Without TAVILY, web steps are skipped and the agent notes "TAVILY isn't set". Chat's index still covers each project's own fields, and the rest of the review runs.
