Sign in and settings
Organizer accounts, signing in, and the read-only instance settings page.
/loginWhoPublicFind itAny organizer page, while signed outOrganizers are the only people with RoundOne accounts. They sign in with an email and password, handled by Supabase Auth. Judges, submitters and visitors to the winners page use links and never sign in.
This page covers signing in, how organizer accounts are created, the account menu, and the read-only Settings page.
Organizer accounts#
RoundOne has no public sign-up for organizers. Someone with access to your Supabase project creates each organizer account by hand. See Add an organizer. An instance can also offer a shared demo login.
Each hackathon belongs to the organizer who created it. Organizers on the same instance don't see or edit each other's hackathons.
The sign-in screen reads Sign in to RoundOne (with your instance's name) and "Admin access only.", or "Try the demo, or sign in as an admin." when the demo login is on. Enter your Email and Password, then click Sign in.
- If either field is empty, you see "Enter your email and password." A wrong email or password shows the message from Supabase.
- After signing in, you land on the page you were trying to open, or on Your hackathons.
- If you're already signed in,
/loginsends you to Your hackathons.
Pages that need an account#
Opening any organizer page while signed out sends you to /login and back again after you sign in. These paths stay open without an account:
| Path | What it is |
|---|---|
/login, /signup | Sign in, and how to get an account |
/docs | This documentation |
/j/[token] | A judge's private page |
/f/[token] | A public submission form |
/w/[slug] | A hackathon's winners page |
/api/intake | The Intake API, which checks its own key |
/landing | The marketing landing page. See Configuration. |
Add an organizer#
/signupWhoPublicFind itSign in › Sign upThe Sign up link under the sign-in form opens a page titled Admins are added by hand. It lists the steps to create an account in the Supabase dashboard:
- Open Authentication → Users in your Supabase project.
- Click Add user, then Create new user.
- Enter the organizer's email and a password. Leave Auto Confirm User checked so they can sign in right away without a confirmation email.
- Send them the password over a private channel. They sign in at
/login.
The page links straight to your project's dashboard, using the project in NEXT_PUBLIC_SUPABASE_URL.
Demo login#
When DEMO_MODE=true is set (see Configuration), the sign-in form comes filled in with a shared demo login and says so. Visitors, such as hackathon judges trying RoundOne, just click Sign in. An admin clears the fields and signs in as usual.
The demo account can try anything, but nothing it does is saved:
- The home page reads Demo hackathons and lists only the hackathons marked as demos, never anyone's real ones. New hackathon is off, and a panel points to self-hosting instead.
- Every page, tab, drawer and preview opens, under a banner saying nothing is saved. Fields, toggles and drafts work on screen, and editors say "Demo: changes aren't saved" in place of "Unsaved changes".
- Anything that would save is off: Update and Save, delete and remove, run, publish, email, upload and moving projects. Chat shows the demo's saved chats but doesn't take new questions, since each one runs the model.
- The database refuses the demo account's writes too, so nothing changes even if a request gets past the page.
The account menu shows "Demo account · nothing is saved" under the name.
Account menu#
On Your hackathons, New hackathon and Settings, your avatar sits at the top right. Click it to open the account menu. It shows your display name and email, and has two items:
- Settings opens the instance settings page.
- Sign out ends your session and returns you to
/login.
The display name comes from the display_name field of your Supabase user metadata. Without one, the menu shows your email.
Settings#
/settingsWhoSigned-in organizersFind itAccount menu › SettingsSettings shows how this instance is configured. It's read-only: settings live in code and the environment, so you change them there and restart or redeploy.
| Section | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Branding | The current name, badge, logo and color from branding.config.js, and the preset colors. |
| Environment | Whether NEXT_PUBLIC_SUPABASE_URL, NEXT_PUBLIC_SUPABASE_PUBLISHABLE_KEY, SUPABASE_SECRET_KEY and SUPABASE_DB_PASSWORD are set, and whether DEMO_MODE is on. It shows the Supabase URL itself, and only "set" or "not set" for the keys. |
| Database | The command that applies the migrations, pnpm supabase db push, and the public storage buckets for photos, logos and prize images. |
| Admins | A reminder that accounts are managed in Supabase Auth, with a link to the sign-up steps. |
The page doesn't cover the AI, email or landing page variables. For the full list, see Configuration.
